An almost bewildering selection of art galleries exist in Helsinki and display a host of Finnish art works and European old masters. Up-and-coming artists in Helsinki are showcased at the 00130 Gallery in the city centre, while the exhibitions at the nearby Annantalo Arts Centre (Annantalon Lasten ja Nuorten Taidekeskus) are aimed at children and families.

A mixture of both modern art works and glass pieces are to be found at the Artegrafica in central Helsinki, with more classical Finnish works at the Museum of Finnish Art (Ateneumin Taidemuseo), a number of which date back to the 18th century. A particularly good cafe is also located on site at this gallery, together with a fairly comprehensive bookstore.




One of the most historic art galleries in the whole of Helsinki is the Cygnaeus Art Gallery (Cygnaeuksen Galleria), which was established as far back as 1882 and boasts a permanent collection of almost 500 classical Finnish paintings and sculptures. The Helsinki City Art Museum (Helsingin Kaupungin Taidemuseo) is also worthy of a mention and home to a host of 20th-century Finnish art. Regular visiting exhibitions and even concerts are often hosted here.
